If there is one athlete from the UT Martin rifle team who has been putting out career-best marks on the air rifle, it is Victoria Petersen. She led the Owls to victory over UAB at the Great American Rifle Conference. In addition, she landed the highest score in air rifle of all time.

It is difficult to affirm this, but this University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team has won both the air and small bore divisions, it is clear that they have. Particularly senior Joey Kovach has led the for both disciplines. Kovach has scored more points in the smallbore category than all of the field and also set a highest in his career with the air rifle. Also, he became the third Skyhawk to be the leader of the team in aggregate scoring. It’s not easy to accomplish this, particularly in the face of such a high level of competing.
The four-day competition was won on a Morehead State Saturday by the rifle team of UT Martin. It was a showcase for some famous names from across the country on air and smallbore. The team scored 4,671 total points, with a huge 4,624 score against Ole Miss. One of the most impressive numbers was 2,305 points that the team scored in smallbore. This is 16 points more than the team scored in its biggest-ever game in the smallbore in the Arkansas-Little rock game on the 16th of October.

The team not only took home their second straight JSU Invitational, they also scored a season-high 2,317 air rifle points. UT Martin will continue to fight with University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) between January 22 and 23. The game also featured North Georgia, Murray State and UT Martin.
UT Martin compiled 4,567 total points, which was an event record. Jesse Chamberlain and Jeffrey Bourassa were among the Skyhawks scorers. All of them were in the section for air rifles. They all scored career-best results. Emily Faught, another Skyhawk, was a master of smallbore. She broke the record set by the school. She set a career high of 597, which was an all-time record and broke the 585 mark. She received academic All-Big Ten Honors for her successes and was included on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Victoria Petersen also set new career-highs in the field of air rifles, recording 581 points against UAB. She was part of the abigail Donald-led team making this her first event participation. Alayna Walther, Rachel Sprague and Rachel Sprague each set career records in the smaller bore section. The 569 and 569 points, respectively, put them on the sixth and fifth slots.
The Great American Rifle Conference’s seventh-place result sees the Skyhawks of NC State placed 7th
NC State’s rifle team ranked 7th in the Great American Rifle Conference Championships with a total of 4667 points. With 581 points, junior John Peterson of the Wolfpack was also among the top three on smallbore. Also on the list of notable accomplishments was the air rifle, in which junior Addy Burrow scored the top score on the second day with 590. This was the Skyhawks team’s first time being a team member to shoot the medal of gold.
NC State ended its year with eight victories, which was an NCAA record. It also broke a 45-game losing streak on the road and established new records. The season ended by winning four times on the road which was more than before in any other year. It also achieved record-setting seven Conference wins.
The Skyhawks have signed 32 players throughout the regular signing period. They also had the opportunity to sign one quarterback five wide receivers, three linebackers and three tight ends. This was the very first time that the school saw this number of new freshmen. The team had six offensive linemen as well as four defensive linemen as well as three runners. The Skyhawks were left with the most impressive roster.
